The year 2008 has seen SGS Kenya Ltd partner with major Tea sector players, ranging from factories, processors, brokers and exporters in certifying their management systems that has given them a definite competitive advantage in the world markets. Food safety systems, ranging from GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001 and ISO 22000, have become 'non tariff' barriers to trade for those food chain players without them, and market penetration licenses for those who can prove upfront, their compliance with them.
SGS Kenya has partnered with these players to add credibility to their food safety management systems by certifying them. The food safety certifications are evolving to a situation that a Single Food Audit System, comprising various standards that a tea or food chain player may be required of by their various markets, are done by SGS in a single audit and the client receives the various certificates.
The rationale for this solution from SGS is that there exists a multiplicity of food safety standard requirements by various markets, so a single producer/ exporter active in various markets do require proving conformance to different standards.
SGS Kenya Ltd has started offering integrated food safety system audits against any combination of ISO 22000, ISO 9001, HACCP, GMP, BRC and IFS food system standards.
